Week 4 Preview

Holy upsets and nailbiters, Batman!  Big trades, big scores, and big shit talk made for an exciting few days of football, and the big players for the season are starting to solidify themselves.  Now that byes have started things will start to get interesting as teams will have to dig into those deep benches for starters.

Week 2 Review

The experts couldn't have been more wrong in the Julio vs. ACL match.  The Julio's manager looked at the consensus picks and laughed as he put up a new league record 189pts.  Fans are still questioning ACL's decision to sit Joseph Randle in the first Dallas game sans-Romo, but in the end even his 30pts wouldn't have been enough to take the win.  In response to the devastating loss, ACL has looked to shake things up in their organization, and completed a blockbuster trade with the Haul.

The experts got the next game between Land O'Nutts and Sicarios right, but it was an incredibly close match.  With only 23 yards from Lynch and a goose egg from Williams, both teams found themselves struggling early.  With a 30pt lead going into Monday night, it looked to be a likely upset for the Sicarios, but Cobb turned out to be Rodger's favorite target for the night, hauling in 3TDs and 32pts, more than enough to seal the deal for the Nutts.

Experts were split between BgDkDdy and tEDDy bEARs, and for good reason as the final result was only 6pts apart.  Unfortunately, the bEARs found themselves on the losing end once again since setting the league-high score in week 1.  Ivory's and Gould's combined 0pts didn't help them at all, which was all the Ddy's needed to squeak by with the win.

What's with all these close games?  The E-Munnies seem pretty dominant at this point, but it's important to note they only pulled off the win by 7pts.  Let's take a moment now to introduce a new honor we'll be awarding one lucky team every week, the Joe Philbin Award.  Every week we'll be giving the JPA to the team that demonstrated the most lack of awareness and foresight with their players.  While both ACL and tEDDy bEARs put forth good claims to the inaugural award, this week's winner is undoubtedly Show Me Your TDs.  Despite Eric Decker being designated OUT with plenty of time before the game's start, the TDs stubbornly started the New York receiver anyway.  Players that could have been plugged in from the bench that would have won TDs the match: Alfred Blue, Pierre Garcon, Coby Fleener.  Players that could have been grabbed off waivers and plugged in that would have won TDs the match: Ted Ginn, Seth Roberts, Charles Sims, Cecil Shorts, Jemaine Kearse, Chris Thompson, Danny Amendola, Louis Murphy, Brian Hartline, etc.  Congratulations Show Me Your TDs!

Finally, the biggest blowout and upset of the week.  Only the team's manager himself believed in For the Long Haul this week, and he proved more than just overconfident.  Low scores out of Forsett, Bernard, and Robinson hurt The Future's chances in the game (and starting a Green Bay tight end hasn't been a good play since Jermichael Finley).  Not much could have helped The Futures, though, with the out-of-nowhere performance from backup Devonta Freeman (seriously, 42pts?).  The Haul's manger wasted no time making moves to capitalize on his success.

Week 3 Preview

After putting up a reasonable 140pt game and still losing to the seemingly unstoppable Julio and Friends, ACL went into negotiations with For the Long Haul to make some big moves.  Sacrificing many of their younger players, ACL welcomed the injured Dez Bryant and the underperforming Lamar Miller to the team.  Dez joins ACL's Jordy Nelson on the IR list, but both should prove invaluable to the team's future.  As a result of the deal, what looked to be an uphill battle for The Futures is now a much closer match.  If Foster and/or Ellington come back this week it will be perfect timing since the ailing Coleman looks to be taking more time to heal than initially expected.

If there was ever a week to make the name change official, this is the one.  The New England bye forces E-Munnies to bench their top 3 scorers from the last three weeks (in addition to their recent star RB, Dion Lewis).  As a result, the tEDDy bEARs have a chance to end their losing streak against the undefeated points leader.  They will need Ivory and Murray to each get over their nagging injuries to make it happen, though.

Looking to capitalize on last week's success and make a deep push this season, For the Long Haul made a massive trade with the struggling Arrogance Can't Lose.  Giving up their big names for younger and more well performing players, the Haul welcomes Randle, Landry, Abdullah, and Hurns to the roster.  As a result, what would have been a close matchup look much more one sided against BgDkDdy.  Coming off a win themselves, the Ddy's will be again relying on Luck remembering that he's a QB1 against the soft Jacksonville secondary.

The week 3 JPA winner Show Me Your TDs has yet another close match this week against Land O'Nutts, who just broke their own losing streak against Sicarios.  With a 6pt spread, this is anyone's game.  If the surprisingly-still-relevant Fitzgerald can keep up his streak, and Bell can carry the extra load resulting from Big Ben's departure, Land O' Nutts will have a difficult time keeping up.  Luckily for them, it's painfully clear now that while Adams is out Cobb will be Rodger's BFF for moving the chains and long touchdowns.  Going up against San Francisco, Lacy should have a great game as well.

Julio and Friends are again projected to lose, and will again look to show why you don't sleep on Mr. Jones, who now leads the NFL in targets, receptions, and red zone targets.  Charles and Green look just as unstoppable, which will make it difficult for opponents to overcome.  Even with a 20pt spread the other way, the experts unanimously give the pick to the Friends.  After losing Romo, the Sicarios were hoping their trade for Manning would be enough to secure last week's win against Land O' Nutts, but they still fell 10pts shy.  This week they hope to put an end to their losing streak, and on paper Lynch, Jennings, Marshall, and Hilton should be able to put up enough points to make it a contest.
