Week 2

A match decided by decimals, a champion losing, and the last place team breaking records; week 1 couldn't get much better!  Although the injury-bug has once again reared it's ugly head, we only have to look to last year to see how much worse it could have been.  Still, we bow our heads in remembrance of Mr. Allen.  May he someday play even half a season.

Week 1 Review

Let's just start with one of the best stories to come out of the first week, multiple-time Philbin Award winner Show Me Your TDs put up a franchise record score of 189.5pts against the dumbstruck BgDkDdys!  It was almost a preview of the Monday night game, when longtime-garbage 49ers actually put up a dominant fight against a defense that used to be good.  Even though The Ddy's had the highest scoring player with a healthy Luck, they didn't have a chance against a team with 5 players putting up over 20pts each, and a kicker who was only a point shy of joining them.  Is this a one-off?  Or will the TD's new gameplan and practice regimen result in an unexpected favorite?

Runner Runner's poor luck from last season seems to be sticking with them.  Gurley can't carry the entire LA team on his back, and without support he may be doomed to low scoring affairs for years.  Freeman got fewer caries (and performed worse with them) than teammate Coleman, which might start up the debate all over again.  That said, it would've been difficult to overcome Julio and Friends anyway, as the team put up the 2nd highest score of the week.  They made the right call in Chiefs-RB-Roulette, and Ware paid dividends.  The win allows the team to retain their title of winningest team in the league's history.

I think Sicarios' coach decided to start Jimmy out of spite, since he was the only QB this blog didn't reference in last issue's predictions.  The 10 points lost by not starting Carr wasn't even the worst news for the team, who lost RG3 to the IR.  After losing Romo both last year and in the preseason this year, Sicarios are just a scary place for quarterbacks.  ACL did not put up a very dominant score, barely breaking 100, but hopefully the solid receiving corps can continue to put up reliable numbers.

How the mighty have fallen!  The Futures put up the third lowest score of the week, and were completely overwhelmed by the tEDDy bEARs.  John Brown's lack of a role in the offense combined with Barnidge's disappearance made it easy for the bEARs to secure the win, especially after Brees came out the gates with a whopping 42.65pts.

The most exciting game was definitely the nail-bitingly close finish between Land O'Nutts and the E-Munnies.  Going into the Monday night game, the Nutts had a solid lead, only needing to fade a single runningback.  The new offense in San Francisco, though, made a star out of Carlos Hyde.  22.3pts later, and the Munnies pulled off the win by the lowest margin in league history.  Less than 1/6th of a point separated the two teams.  That one has to hurt.

Week 2 Preview

The E-Munnies, though happy with their win, are desperately awaiting the return of Brady.  Forced to choose between the likes of Tyrod, Dak, and Marcus can't be fun, not to mention how Edelman and Gronk/Bennett suffer from Tom's absence.  Any win they can pull off before week 5 is a blessing, because the team will be difficult to beat thereafter.  ACL got lucky with the matchup last week, and will need to make better starting choices to get any kind of streak going.  Zeke has a juicy matchup for his second NFL start, and hopefully can show some of that flash he demonstrated in the preseason, yet was oddly missing against the Giants.

The Futures don't get a breather after last week's loss, and find themselves facing a team that has only lost 2 regular season games in their history.  RG3's injury is actually a blessing in disguise for the team, as Barnidge has his big games last year with McCown throwing the ball.  Julio and Friends have to hope it becomes clearer before kickoff which of the Chiefs RBs are starting, but otherwise things are all looking up, especially if Bradford is finally named the starter which would boost Diggs' value.

One of these teams is going to have the unfortunate honor of starting the season at 0-2.  Sicarios needs their WRs to actually perform to projections, while Runner Runner needs the same out of its runners.  This matchup really has the potential to either be the highest scoring of the week or the lowest, with how many boom/bust players are on each roster.

Looking at the schedule prior to last week, the bEARs had to love seeing their Mikkle-bye coming up in week 2.  This matchup looks a little less rosy to the team, now.  Brees 40pts is probably unsustainable, and Dez needs to get another good game in (the last he has was this time last year).  With a likely high scoring game coming up between the Steelers and Bengals, Brown and DeAngelo both look primed to put up another big week.

A second matchup that guarantees a 0-2 team, both of these teams are due for a little luck after last week's seeming flukes.  Watkins is again dealing with that nagging foot issue, which makes him a nervous start for the Nutts, though Jordy looks as solid as ever.  Anderson looks to be an early season star for the Ddys if he can keep up with all the caries he'll be given, and healthy Luck is best Luck.
